Espicopal Wills Malew 1716-3 – Henry Lesquire

Castletown Decr 19th 1716

The last will of Mr Henry Lesquire, who depareted this life the 16th Instant. Imprimis He committed his soul to God, and his body to Christian Burial. Itm: he left to Capt: John Stevenson of Peel, his two edged sword. Lastly he constituted and appointed his daughter Jane Merridith als Lesquire, Executr of all the rest of his goods and Effects moveable and immoveable whatsoever.

Testes [witnesses]

John Waterson, John Rothmell

Memo: Mr Waterson, one of the witnesses, declares that the night before the making of the above will, the testator mentioned a Legacy of fourty shillings to John Kewley towards the building his house.

At Castletown, Feb 5th 1716 [1717 NS]. The witnesses have deposed that they did not look upon the testator to be Compos Mentis, when he made the above will; & whereas no relation has appeared to take the admion of his goods, the same is committed to his stepson George Stole, who has obliged himself to pay the Debts as far as the goods will extend; & has persuant thereunto, given pledges, Mr Jo: Waterson & Mr Jo: Rothmell.

Jo: Kewley enters a claim agt the Admr of Mr Henry LeSquire, for 6s & craves the Law.

20 Sept 1717

Jo Cottier enters for 12d & craves the Law

9 Nov 1717

Rich Slater enters for the sum of six pounds lent for which he has a House in Mortage, as also for 20s lent money, & the interest thereof from the 26th of March 1715. With the interest of 20s more, since the 25th of July 1713 & craves the Law.

Decr 11 1717

Ewan Kewley enters for 4s for attending him 4 days & nights; & on behalf of his father Jo: Kewley for 6s due for Linnen, & craves the Law.

[? a George Squier is named along with Richard Stevenson in the transfer of the Calf of Man in 1643/4 - father ?. Ann wife of Henry Lesquire buried, Arbory, 1686, (also in Malew Reg 20 June 1684 + son Richard buried 1683), in 1704 Henry and Eliz Wife - presumably Eliz Stoale. Henry Lesquire appears as a Soldier in the 1683 Book of Disbursements (possibly earlier as those for 1673/1682 are missing), promoted to segeant (and also post of Falconer) by 1690 and Lieutenant by 1700.
