Re: John Callow 1763-1833
In Response To: John Callow 1763-1833 ()

When someone first contacted me about this branch of the CALLOWs, the belief was that John CALLOW b. 1763 was a grandson of William CALLOW the Quaker. Below is my response to the query: (which Noel is aware of)

"At first glance the connection with William CALLOW (Ballafayle, Quaker) appears a little inaccurate. John CALLOW b. 1763 is described as a "grandson of Good William Callow", which means that John was the son of one of William's sons, but my research based on the Radcliffe's "History of Kirk Maughold" would suggest that he would have to be a "great-grandson" (at the very least) with a 1763 birthdate. William (the Quaker's) grandson William was born in 1690 and died in 1766, and his son William (ie the Quaker's great grandson) was born in 1727, predeceased his father, and their second son Thomas inherited Ballafayle.....so you can understand my hesitation in accepting the research at face value. William (the Quaker) did have a second son John. It's possible that the Bride CALLOWs descend from him , because as a second son he would be more likely to settle outside of the Maughold Ballafayle area (held by William the heir). I have no research information on this John or his line. When A.D. Callow was doing his research he would have had much less access to the genealogical data which is now at our fingertips"

I repeat it here on the off chance that it might stir some thoughts.
