As a school boy I did meet Margaret Curphey the petitioner, spinster of Douglas, just before her death.
My aunt Elsie Newton of Port St Mary IOM was her bookkeeper. Her shop and office was the Manxonia in Douglas. (We are related by link to William and Jane Gick of Cordeman. Their farm lands were close to each other.

I have a photo of the farm where the Curphey's were born - it still stands with the old water pump they had to use to draw water. It all goes back to the 18th century at least.

I will be over again in the IOM (south) in a few weeks time.
