Re: Curphey/Brew Marriage
In Response To: Curphey/Brew Marriage ()

Hi Jean

It looks as though John Curphey and Ann Brew married on 13 Jan 1811 (IGI, extracted entry), John was born in 1813 (or early Jan 1814, from his MI: "Also in memory of John Curphey of Cordeman, Malew, who departed this life January 18, 1865, aged 51 years. "), and Ann Curphey nee Brew died 7th April 1816 (MI: Beneath this stone are deposed the remains of Ann Curphey alias Brew, wife of John Curphey, junior, departed this life the 7 April 1816, aged 26 years )

It doesn't leave much opportunity for other children---perhaps one in late 1811 or 1812, and another in late 1814 or 1815, but none shows up in the IGI.

It isn't clear from the IGI who John Curphey's second wife is. His daughter Catherine is born in 1819 or 1820, and she marries William Moore Gick in 1839.

GICK, Catherine 79 San 16 Mar 1899

Wm Moore Gick and Catherine nee Curphey have several children, including Catherine Gick 1840-1906 who dies a spinster. A paragraph in her admin papers states:

"Deceadant's maternal uncle of the half blood, John Curphey, predeceaed
her leaving four sons and no more who survived deceadant namely John
Curphey, William Curphey, James Curphey and Edward Curphey all of whom are
resident off the island of Man and four daughters and no more who survived
deceadent namely Christian Hughes wife of Hugh Huges of the Poplars near
Rhyl in the County of Flint. Isabella Newton wife of Edward Newton of Derby
Square in the borough of Douglas Margaret Curphey of the borough of Douglas
spinster and petitioner."
