Re: R. Joughin and E. Brown m. NZ 1873

Hello Philip,

Yes it was me, but I am no longer of the Quiring Clan. I've not done a lot of genealogy since about that time as other things in life intervened and I've only seriously picked it up again about 6 months ago. I wasn't aware that Bert Salmon had died; that's sad news. I have some information here that Anne Cording gave me when she was in Australia last, but I can see from your posting that some of it has changed considerably since then. I will respond off-list with further details of the family as I'd like to hear what you know and I'm sure I can tell you a few new things as well, despite your obviously extensive knowledge.

In the meantime, do you happen to know when Robert and Ann left IOM for New Zealand? Any idea with regard to shipping? I'm assuming from my current information that they left somewhere between 1850 and 1872 with at least 4 children including Robert jnr, headed for the new settlements on the South Island of New Zealand, I believe, although they all moved to the Auckland area later on.

Does anyone else eading this thread know the answer?

Regards,
Jeny
