the Gas works were on South Quay - see www.manxnotebook.com/towns/douglas/do_1910.htm (the site is now a small industrial/warehouse park - the stone bridge is the one up near the nunner (land side of the swing bridge near the harbour mouth - demolished 1937 and replaced by current one a little nearer the harbour
