Sorry I'm confusing myself here!! Isabella was Margaret's mother not John's. Still dont know why Margaret and John might have married in Scotland though. Isabella married James Cottier in the IOM. I had thought that Margaret and John might have married in England or Wales rather than the IOM, so I'd not looking at Scottish records as much, worth a check though.
