Re: Skillicorn Family
In Response To: Re: Skillicorn Family ()

Hello Lois:

Way back in November 2005, I asked for and very kindly received from you a list of the Skillicorn family. I apologise for taking so long to reply but it is only recently - after a lot of researching - I have put together 'my' Skillicorn family. You asked in your message of Nov 2005 which branch of the Skillicorns' was I related to. I have listed it now and if you have any further information which might be relevant to this branch of the family, I would be most grateful. My email address is: marg.skillicorn@virgin.net

Gladys Eveline Skillicorn DOB 1900 Died 1987 Salford, Lancs. is my mother, her siblings are: Lilian DOB 1891: Ethel DOB 1893: Robert Henry DOB 1882: George Henry DOB 1884: Elizabeth Eleanor DOB 1894: Harold Richard DOB 1897: Died 1964 Ontario, Canada, he was sent to Canada as a Home Child in 1913: Alice Lena DOB 1903: Unmarried: Died 1926 Salford, Lancs, from peritonitis.

The four youngest children were put into the Douglas Industrial Home in March 1909 from where Harold was sent to Canada to work on a farm in Belleville, Ontario.

Parents: John James Skillicorn DOB 1863: Died: March 1909: Eliza Catherine Kelly DOB 1863, Died Dec. 1908: Both from TB as obtained from death certificates.

Parents of John James: John Skillicorn DOB 1839: Jane Moore DOB 1837 Died 1875: John married Eleanor Cannan DOB 1844 in 1894:

Parents of John DOB 1839: John Skillicorn DOB 1796 Died 1858. Married Isabella Cowley DOB 1804 Died 1859:

This is as far as I have managed to go back but am still beavering away! I am going to take an open university 12 course called "Start Writing Your Family History" in order to give the research I have done more meaning and understanding.

In fact, the Skillicorn family information you provided is essentially my family line. Do you think your husband could be related somewhere along the way? If this is so, I can send you further information on the extended family on my father's side.

You also said in the Nov 2005 message you posted that you had more information in the footnotes but were unable to post it on the noticeboard because of the format it was in, you could send it to my email which I have give above.

Regards, Marg
