My husband is descended from a Skillicorn from Lonan, so I wound up investigating all of the Skillicorns I could find.

John Skillicorn (Edward-EstherCorkill, John-AnnFargher, John-KathSkillicorn, John-_____, Gilbert-Elizabeth Ceiggeen) was baptized at Lonan, November 28, 1796, and died there, August 13, 1858, age 62. John Skillicorn of Ballabeg was buried at Lonan, August 15, 1858, age 62. He married, at Lonan, April 30, 1831, Isabella Cowley, daughter of John and Isabella (Kewley) Cowley. She was baptized at Lonan, October 23, 1803, died there, March 17, 1859, age 55, and was buried March 20, 1859, age 55.

The will of John Skillicorn of Ballabeg was dated July 20, 1858. He leaves bequests of one shilling each to his children John, James, Elizabeth, and Ann. To his wife Isabella and to her heirs and assignes he leaves “all my right title and interest in the dwelling house where I now reside.” He appoints his wife Isabella whole and sole executrix and residuary legatee.

John and Isabella Skillicorn lived at Ballabeg. (Ballabeg a quarterland in Rauff.)

i. Elizabeth Skillicorn was baptized July 14, 1833, and was buried at Lonan, August 1, 1859, age 27. She married, at Lonan, September 5, 1851, William Kissack, possibly the son of Thomas and Margaret (Cowle) Kissack. Child of Elizabeth Skillicorn and William Kissack: baptized at Lonan i. William Henry Kissack was baptized January 11, 1852.

ii. Ann Skillicorn was baptized 1835.

+ iii. John Skillicorn was baptized March 24, 1839. He married, at Braddan, January 20, 1859, Jane Moore.

+ iv. James Skillicorn was baptized March 3, 1846, died at Laxey Glen, November 20, 1912, age 66, and was buried there, November 22, 1912, age 22. He married, at Lonan, November 22, 1866, Elizabeth Quine. He married second, at Lonan, April 7, 1894, Eleanor Cannan.

Next Generation

John Skillicorn (John-Isabella Cowley, Edward-Esther Corkill, John-Ann Fargher, John-KathSkillicorn, John-_____, Gilbert-Elizabeth Ceiggeen) was baptized at Lonan, March 24, 1839. He married, at Braddan, January 20, 1859, Jane Moore. Jane died before 1881, when John is listed in the census as a widower.

John Skillicorn lived in Douglas.

James Skillicorn (John-IsabellaCowley, Edward-EstherCorkill, John-AnnFargher, John-KathSkillicorn, John-_____, Gilbert-Elizabeth Ceiggeen) was baptized at Lonan, March 6, 1846, and died at Laxey Glen, November 20, 1912, age 66, He married, at Lonan, November 22, 1866, Elizabeth Quine, daughter of Thomas Quine, farmer. She was born about 1840, died at North Baldrine, Lonan, July 5, 1886, age 46, and was buried, “Elizabeth Skillicorn, Baljean”, July 7, 1886.

James Skillicorn, son of John Skillicorn, sailor, deceased, a widower, age 48, married second, at Lonan, April 7, 1894, Eleanor Cannan, 49 of Laxey, daughter of Charles Cannan, deceased. Eleanor was probably the daughter of Charles and Ann (Cowley) Cannan, baptized at Lonan, December 29, 1844. She died at Lonan, September 2, 1912, age 67.

Thomas Skillicorn of Pinfold Hill, on behalf of the estate of James Skillicorn, late of Hollywood, Glen Road, Laxey, a butcher who died November 20, 1912, petitions the court on November 30, 1912. Thomas Skillicorn of Pinfold; James Skillicorn of Hollywood, Glen Road, Laxey, joiner; Charles Skillicorn of 131 Florence St., Manchester; give pledges. The will of James Skillicorn of Lonan was dated May 20, 1912. He names sons Charles, James, and Thomas trustees and executors. He also names his wife Eleanor and daughter Elizabeth Ellen.

James Skillicorn lived at Baldrine and Laxey Glen.

i. William Quine, illegitimate son of Elizabeth Quine of Ballachoan, was baptized at Lonan, November 8, 1864.

ii. William Henry Quine, illegitimate son of Elizabeth Quine of Breckwillagh, was baptized March 4, 1866.

Children of Elizabeth Quine and James Skillicorn: baptized at Lonan

i. Ann Jane Skillicorn was baptized September 24, 1867, and died April 23, 1955, age 87. Ann Jane Skillicorn, 32, of New Rd., Laxey, daughter of James Skillicorn, married April 26, 1900, John Waring Walton, 38, an artist of Birkenhead. John Walton died April 4, 1934, age 72. She apparently lived as a child with William Tupper, her maternal uncle.

ii. James Skillicorn was baptized February 21, 1869. According to his father’s estate proceedings, he was a joiner.

iii. Thomas Edward Skillicorn was baptized February 22, 1870, and died at Lonan, March 26, 1917, age 47. He married Catherine Eliza _____. She died November 27, 1957, age 84.

iv. Elizabeth Eleanor Skillicorn was baptized September 20, 1871, and died at Lonan, March 22, 1933, age 62.

v. Robert Skillicorn was baptized August 27, 1875, and died at Lonan, September 30, 1953, age 79.

vi. Charles Skillicorn was baptized August 27, 1875. According to his father’s 1912 estate proceedings, he lived in Manchester.

vii. John H. Skillicorn was born about 1883. He was not mentioned in his father’s 1912 estate proceedings.
