The CR Index seems to be on permanent free access - they say this is to help family researchers rather than to undermine the plethora of pay-per-view sites with the same info and build loyalty to Ancestry - you make your own mind up, but I never look a gift-horse in the mouth....
The 1901 census had free access whilst the TV series ran on terrestrial (BBC2) - as it has already ended, it may well revert back to pay-per-view at any time - get a move on if you want to download all the Kaighin data for your one-name study! There again, it may stay on free access for a while - the website has been updated over the past few days and it does identify free access to the Index for a limited time, but the full transcriptions and images are available free of charge at the moment - the IOM Census is now included in the offer.
