Re: Thomas Corkill Maughold/ Kermod
In Response To: Re: Thomas Corkill Maughold ()

Hi Averil,

Yes, hopefully you will have good luck with the wills.

In her Maughold book Constance Radcliffe writes that John (1707-1791) and Elizabeth had four surviving sons and three surviving daughters. This information probably came from a will, but she writes only about the two eldest sons and their descendants.

In my previous message I wrote:
John son of John Kermod bapt.15 Jan 1707/08.
John son of Richard Kermod bapt.7 Sep 1690.
- Because I wasn't sure which one he was.

CR writes that in 1601 Rich Kermott was in possession of the family farm at Ballajora, followed by John who d.1671, Richard 1648-1715, five Johns, William 1811-1884 and John 1840-1905 whose daughter Else inherited the farm.
She mentions the will of the second Richard's wife Isabel Corkill who d.1692, and Richard's will in which he left a chest to his grandson John (the John who married Elizabeth Kissag). She wrote that Elizabeth left beams in the house to her daughter Ann in 1776 - so there are lots of wills for you to look at! Let's hope that Thomas Corkill is mentioned.

Isabel CORKILL wife to Rich KERMOD buried Maughold Mar 14 1692.

Rich KERMOD buried Maughold Oct 4 1715.

Elizabeth KERMOD als KISSACK buried Maughold Jan 13 1776.

John KERMOD Ballajora buried Apr 3 1791.

John KERMOD Ballajora buried Jun 2 1804.
