Re: Thomas Corkill Maughold
In Response To: Thomas Corkill Maughold ()

Hello Averil,

I followed the line of John b.1743 son of Will Corkill & Easter/Esther Cannell, and brother of Thomas b.1745 (both mentioned in their wills, and in the will of their elder half-brother William who "perished by sea" 1759).

In the 1774 will of Esther Corkill als Cannell "she left a little wheel to her daughter-in-law Margt Corkill". Their son John of Ballagorry Mooar Maughold had married Jane Skillicorn of Lonan (see her mother Margaret Skillicorn's will), so the daughter-in-law Margaret must have been the only other son Thomas's wife. I guessed she was Margaret Skillicorn because of the Thomas C / Margt S bapts in Lonan (Thomas & Margt), and that it was Thomas's will "of the Ard" Maughold, in 1834 (John, Thomas, William, Margaret), but this could have been a younger Thomas. I didn't follow up on this family - there are a lot of Lonan parish register years missing, especially for marriages.

There were a number of children named in wills who didn't show up in the bapts, so you probably have several options for who Thomas was. Wills of siblings, uncles, aunts, grandparents sometimes give extra information - like with the Skillicorn ones mentioned above.
