Hi Jean,

You're WONDERFUL! Thank you so much for your interest and input.

To give you a little background. My father, now 94years old was born in Knutsford England. His parents weren't married and his father didn't put his name on the birth certificate. He was known as Peter Flick until he went to school.
His father, an older man seemed quite successful and sent my father to boarding school in Bexhill at the age of 3.5 years. He stayed in my father's life, financially supporting him until about 1935 when he seemed to disappear. When he registered my father in school my Grandfather wrote his own name as Charles Peterson and my father then on became known as Peter Peterson.

At 90 years of age my rpfather began to question who his father was and what happened to him.
So for the past 4 years I have literally spent thousands of hours looking for him. We know very little other than he was born on March 7th...year unknown.
Long story short after 3.5 years I couldn't find any Charles Peterson who fit the profile, born on or around that date.

Last Sept. my father submitted his DNA to Ancestry and we found there were matches to a Danish family by the name of Petersen. Looking at the family chart there was a Carl Petersen...born March 7th 1879.
His sister was Johanna Magdalene was born in 1877. The family emigrated to Hartlepool England in 1883/4.

I have since learned a few things about My Grandfather, but there are gaps. He was an Electrical Engineer working in Irelamd and Berlin in the early 1900's, from 1906-1921 I have found nothing. I know he served in WW1, but I don't know where he was located.
but I'm fairly certain he lived abroad, possibly South Africa. The woman he live with from 1936-1962 was Brish born but lived for years in SA.

He didn't marry until 1934 at the age of 55 yrs but he was with the woman fro SA, May Schoeman Ward, only 2 years later.

We suspect he had been involved with a number of women over the years, so one of my father's main questions is, did his father have other children.

Finding my Grandfather has been bittersweet; exciting after 94 years to finally know who he was but sad that he didn't feel compelled to maintain a relationship with his son, who he had had supported and mentored for the first 14 years of his life.
It was also a little shocking to find he passed away in 1962, where it was believed he died in 1935...for 27 years he lived close by but showed no interest in being a part of his son's life.

Charles Petersen and his sister Johanna seemed close...while Johanna lived in Wales, Charles was in Southport/ Manchester, then later they both lived in the Chelsea/Kensnigton area. Johanna named 1 son after her brother; Charles Petersen Yeoman.

In Charles Will, he left everything to May, even though it doesn't seem they ever married, however she did take his name. I suspect he never divorced his wife whom he married in 1934.

I just got a copy of Johanna's will and noticed that she left some Jewellery to her Family, as well as her God daughter Margaret which makes me wonder if the connection was also familial.

It's very common to use family as God parents, which made me question if the relationship between Margaret and Johanna could possibly also be family.

I 'm sorry, I've gone into great detail to justify my curiosity.
I'm really hoping that I can find descendants of my Grandfather's family who can tell me more to fill in the gaps and complete the story and may even have photographs.

Thanks again,
Janis Marks
