You were looking for Alexander on the 1901 Census , I found an Alexander Miller aged 12 (One year out) in the Coombe Ragged School , 96.2 Coombe , Merchants Quay, Dublin.
It was "run for young protestant boys". There are about 56 there aged from 10 to 16.There were no other Millers there.
If it is him , it would explain the Irish Military connection.
