Re: Help with my family Genealogy

Don't know why but I don't seem to be able to embed a file here so I have copied it to this forum

I have traced family back to my GG Grandfather Nathaniel by using census records and BMD certificates. I have now drawn a blank

The first record I have of my possible G G G Grandfather (John Moore) is in the 1841 census for Michael (??arty) in Balla Cast.... or Last......(?) He is then living with an Arther Moore (35) (his son or even his grandson). According to that census Arthur is married to Margaret and has a son Isaac (4 months old) and a 9 year old David Kelly as well as John living in the same house. John is recorded as 75 years old and a pauper. The census indicates that he is originally from Ireland whilst his son is from IOM.

My GG Grandfather Nathaniel Moore is Arthur's brother and is recorded in the 1841 census with his wife (Esther) at a place caller Ball??hinch (?) he describes himself as an agricultural labourer and originating from Ireland. Nathaniel married Esther in the previous November (1840) but there is no sign of his father (John).

In the burial records of Kirk Michael there is recorded – John's death aged 85 in 1848 – that would make John's DOB 1763 there is also a tombstone to Nathaniel and Esther

Nathaniel is the youngest of 4 in order they are Arther (b 1806) Samuel (b 1814) Robert (b 1811) and Nathaniel (b 1818)

My questions are

1 what records are there for John? What relationship is John to Arthur and Nathaniel. Is he the father or the G.father or just a relative

2 Records show in 1841, 51 and 61 that Nathaniel was born in Ireland – is there any way of finding out when he arrive from Ireland

3 Nathaniel had a son Thomas (b1846?) who in various census describes himself as a seaman or mariner – he married a girl in Anglesea – Is there any record of his work as a seaman, fisherman or mariner. Do we know how far he went ??
