Re: Quark & Moore families Lonan late 1600s

I'm quite comfortable that Phinlo's father was John Quark (d 1689 of Ballakilley), but I can't determine his mother. If it's a daughter of Philip Moore (d 1681) and one of his wives (Ann? Margaret? someone else?), then it can't be either of the 2 daughters mentioned in Margaret's 1674 will (Margaret unmarried, Ann is married to Patrick Christian). Could be there was a 3rd daughter, maybe born of the first wife Ann, which is why Margaret didn't mention her. I can't seem to tie the Moore's down as of yet.

I estimate Phinlo was born ca 1670 or perhaps a bit earlier. His daughter Margaret (my ancestor, md John Scarff not long before Lonan registers start date of 1718) maps back to around 1695 and probably son John is about the same and daughter Jane a bit younger.

It's possible that John Quark (d 1689) had 2 wives, with the Moore one dying early and the unnamed wife in the will being the 2nd one (perhaps mother of the underage children). It seems to be a trend back then!

WRT Phinlo Quark's wife Jane Lewney, who died 1713: The Lonan will extracts in the Manx Notebook has one for 1697 Mary Loony als Moor which mentions bro Phil Moore, husb Danl Looney, ch Dan (eldest son), Jane, Ellinr, James and perhaps others underage, with Dan & Jane supvs of ua ch. In 1717 ellinor Looney acks father for that due by death of mother & sis Jane.

I haven't chased these people down yet, but since Phinlo Quark's wife Jane Lewney died in 1713 and her sister Elinor acknowledges in 1717 mentioning her dead sister Jane , the above Mary d 1697 looks like it would be her mother and her husband Dan Looney perhaps her father. And Mary was a Moore with her brother Philip Moore. Is this the same Philip Moore as discussed earlier or another one?

More research still to be done.
