Re: quark family
In Response To: Re: quark family ()

Phinlo Quark (ca 1665 to 1716) of Balladhoo Lonan is an ancestor of mine, so all of this is interesting for me. Phinlo & Jane (Lewney) had 3 children according to their wills: John, Margaret and Jane. Margaret Quark (ca 1695-1760) married John Scarffe of Ballaskirroo abt 1716 Lonan. Jane Quark md Philip Corrin 19 Nov 1723, and died 1731 with one child Philip b 1728. Her admin assigns the orphan's uncle John Scarff as supervisor. I believe John Quark md first Elinor Cubbon (one child Mary 1718) and then Joney Sayle in 1720 (children: Phinlo 1724, Margaret 1727, Robert 1730).

The earlier John Quarks are tricky and I think at least 2 of them are parallel. The 1689 will of John Quark of Ballakilley mentions sons Phinlo, John, and daughters Jane & Catharine, and presumably the latter (two?) are underage. Widow is unnamed.

I'm having trouble placing the Moore connection mentioned in Frances' earlier message, which presumably would be the eldest daughter Margaret of Philip Moore (d 1681) and Margaret (d 1674). The other daughter was Ann. Philip Moore's 1681 will (transcribed and posted by me a few years ago) suggests he remarried and had two more children Thos & Katr, underage. The second wife must be Christian Quark als Looney as the will extract 1697 fits very well. After her husband's death, she must have married a John Quark and so she had a step son Jo Quark & wife Jane Quark als Cluage {Clague] as well as husband Jo Quark still alive. John Sr's first wife was Isabella Shimmin, will extract (MNB Wills Lonan) 1681. Oh, this is confusing! Anyway, Philip Moore in 1681 mentions his "daughter Margrett Moore" and declared Cath: Christian (perhaps a sister?) and "ye oldest daughter" [presumably Margaret] sworn supervisors of the younger children. If Margaret Moore was the wife of John Quark and mother of Phinlo (who had to be born no later than 1675 and probably earlier) , they would have been long married by 1681 and therefore wouldn't her husband be the supervisor? I think that Margaret Moore must be unmarried in 1681. Or am I way off base?
