Re: Hogg family of the Isle of Man

not knowing how far back the Scottish or Manx Hogg lines have been traced makes things difficult - however there is definitely a link to Belfast (and thus possibly to Scotland as Northern Ireland was forceably resettled by Scots in 16th C - possibly the Manx Hoggs derive via Ireland - they are mostly seen in Lonan until later 18th C) - Old Lonan deed 74 - dated 2 Jun 1720;Thomas Hogg(Belfast, Ireland) + wife[no name given + she doesn't sign] sell for £15 to brother Philip Tear a parcel of intack called the Large Garraw + 2 crofts, house + garden rent 1s 8d half now (+ other half after mo's death);Witt Richard Quirk x, John Hogg x
this Thomas (whose wife is probably a Tear ) is possibly linked to another Irish Hogg as in 1691 composition book a Kath Hogg is noted in place of a Wm Hogg who compounded for 3 lives (in 1643) and one of his names was William Hogg alledged to be alive in Ireland but noted as dead by time of 1704 composition book

The 1515 ref was I'm afraid wrong it is in appendix K of book on 15111/1515 man roll but refers to property noted in 1704 composition - in 1669 there were 4 Hogg families owning intacks - Wm Hogg bought property in 1655 in Colby(Lonan) from Douglas merchants Phil Moore + John Murrey (to whom it had fallen by a lapsed mortgage) - I havn't transcribed earlier Lonan Lib Vas as yet but there are a few entries of property transfers in 2nd half of 17th C to + from various Hoggs (all these details are on my CD Rom not the online MNB)
