Hi - I came to the conclusion that Penzance John Corkill was probably NOT the Ards one (unfortunately). It was looking good until the one born in 1773 didn't appear to have a brother Thomas, nor was the eldest son - Robert b.1770 was older. The JC who matched the age given for him in court "who left the Island in 1792 at the age of 19 and joined the navy" was John bapt. 21 March 1773 in Maughold, the son of John Corkill and Ann Kissag, and one of several children.

I haven't seen the IGI family tree. What does it say about John Corkill bapt 1 July 1770, the son of John Corkill & Margt Cashen, who I think was the Ards one?

In the court case the defendant Mrs Moore said that her gt uncle had gone to America, and not into the navy.

Yes I think her father was John bapt Maughold 24 Mar 1811, son of Thomas Corkill (bapt Maughold 21 July 1745) & Elinor Callow.
