Many thanks, Eric - I missed that Joney Skillicorn 1799 will in Braddan. You are absolutely correct, and she did indeed have a nephew Patrick Brew. He was bapt 21 July 1751 Jurby, the youngest child of Margaret Skillicorn & John Brew.

He actually solved a long-standing genealogical problem for me and Keith Wright who used to post on this board. I thought it was interesting that Patrick Brew's estate and that of his second wife Mary Mylecharaine, who both died in 1833, were not settled until 1874 when two petitions were lodged by Thomas BREW, Ramsey, and by Jane BREW als SEDDONS, his wife, “great granddaughter of Mary Brew als Mylecharaine” to administer the estates. We puzzled for years over how English-born Jane could be their gt granddaughter other than by marriage to Thomas Brew who was the grandson of Patrick and his first wife Alice Joughin.

It turned out that she was the illegitimate daughter of Patrick's granddaughter Jane Moughtin als Brew who returned to live in the IoM bringing the child with her. Their son's youngest daughter was Keith Wright's mother.

If this sounds confusing, it was! But very satisfying to finally work it out.
