Thanks Averil, I have now (re)checked Scotlands People for the marriage of Frances Shimmin to an unknown Clarke prior to 1916, no results, also checked for her on Scotland's1911 census -with Shimmin and Clarke- no results, once again. As I am running out of ideas, I guess I must think about looking in Ireland, bur have no experience at all trying to trace Irish records, and no time at present as my son and family are coming to stay very soon prior to going to New Zealand. So my mystery may remain, although I have photos of her marriage to Philip Quayle, and we have been to stay with them up in Scotland when I was very young, so I know she exists, and from several sources that she was married to a Clarke , but no given name, nor where they married, sadly.
