Re: IOM Researchers
In Response To: Re: IOM Researchers ()

I checked Len's IGI ref. There is an extracted record for JAMES QUIGGIN Christening: 28 FEB 1816 Ramsey, Isle Of Man, Father: JAMES MOORE, Mother: SARAH QUIGGIN.

The IGI puts illegitimate children's bapts under the mother's surname, even when both names are given. There might be a Presentment in the Manx Museum Library which would be well worth tracking down to see the father's details given there (contributing towards the maintenance of the child). The child is not named, but if there is a record of James Moore paying support for a child of Sarah Quiggin within a year or two of that bapt, you could be pretty sure it is for the above James.

Frances has indexed a lot of Presentments and if she has this one it would be much cheaper to buy her CD than to hire a MM researcher. Once you have the exact date of the Presentment I think the Library staff would email you the scan for a fee (or Frances might still have one).
