Re: John Kermode-Margaret Kneale of Lonan

Since I have Kermode in my genealogy too, I thought I'd see what I could figure out.

With great difficulty and moving him between 2 sets of parents at least 3 times, it's now established that the John Kermode who married Margaret Kneale 1854 Lonan is the son of Daniel Kermode & Margaret Killip baptized 13 July 1828. I think we got caught with the MI of Daniel and his first wife Margaret (ref Donna's note 30/4/2011) which mentions two infant children named John & Thomas. It would be easy to conclude that the 1828 John was one of them but now we know he wasn't. There is room for a child between the Aug 1823 marriage and the first known baptism (Ann Nov 1825) so I surmise there briefly was a John in there. There was another discussion about son William b 1831 claiming his rights from his mother's will in 1874 (Sylvia 18/6/2011) being perhaps the only surviving child, but that's not true either. I was able to find the 1828 John (a tailor) in all the census's (1841 age 12 with father & step mother, 1851 in Liverpool, then Lonan until 1901 when he was a widower living with widowed daughter Eliza Clucas in Douglas), died 1908. I was able to take Margaret Kneale back a bit too if that's of interest.

I disagree with Wayne that the William Kermode b 1787 (s/o Daniel Kermode & Margaret Quark and therefore uncle of the above John K) married Isabella Kewley. The 1787 William married Jane FARGHER 19 Mar 1817 Lonan and I have 8 children for them (Ann 1817, John 1819, William 1820, Margaret 1822 (she married John Skillicorn 1843), Thomas 1827, Isabella Jane 1831, Sarah 1834 & Henry James 1837). William was a Freehold Farmer of 20 Acres at Crot Allow Lonan and a Fisherman in 1851.

There is a William Kermode who married Isabella Kewley 31 May 1822 Lonan and I found 8 children for them: Eleanor Jane 1823, William 1826, John 1828, Isabella 1831, James 1834, Thomas 1837, Ann 1840 and Henry 1843. They lived at Lag Doo (Lhag Dhoo) Lonan and interestingly in 1851 they are immediately above the other William at Crot Allow. Makes one want to relate them, but for the life of me I can't do it. This William was a Master Shoe Maker born about 1797-98 Lonan based on the census's. So far, he's an orphan.

Also at Lag doo is a John Kermode, Shoemaker born about 1815, married Ann COWLEY 8 May 1845, 8 children. He has a pauper sister Ann born about 1811 who had two illegitimate daughters in the 1830s. They seem to have stuck together for at least 3 census's. I found them on the IGI as children of John Kermode and Isabella Croghan but that didn't seem to go anywhere. Are they connected to the master Shoemaker William above somehow?

I hope this helps a bit, but probably adds yet more questions too.
