Re: Lawrence Kelly
In Response To: Lawrence Kelly ()

I am looking for information on the Kelly line, more specifically Lawrence Kelly. I am not certain how far back my immediate family can trace, or if it can reach a Lawrence Kelly from the isle of Mann that settled in Virginia. I do know that Lawrence Kelly has long been a family name for my family. This was a tradition beyond that of those who could remember the details of where/when the tradition started, even for my great grandfather, but importance was placed on naming the first son Lawrence. This lasted up to my father who was offered a sum of money to name my brother Lawrence Kelly IV. He broke from this however. The part of the tree that I do know is that my great grandfather was Lawrence Kelly, my grandfather Lawrence Kelly II (1928-2011), and my father Lawrence Kelly III(1949-), all of which have all had ties to Toledo Ohio. I am not exactly sure when we came from the isle of Mann, I do know for a fact that it was the isle of Mann, but the family history is that the individual who brought the family to U.S. had been traveling clergyman back on the isle. I know that the name has become more common as time has passed. Unfortunately we have hit a snag in being able to go much farther beyond. Timing seems somewhat plausible in that we believe my great grandfather was a 2nd/3rd generation American.

If anybody can help or still checks this thread, would be grateful for any information. You can reach me here or at kellycp@my.hiram.edu.
Thank you,
Colin Kelly
