My great grandfather was Francis N. SHIMMIN b. 1852 Douglas. It seems his father was JAMES SHIMMIN (Chr: 04 MAY 1822 or 3 or 5? Malew), who married JANE MC NEILS in 1844. Family legend has it that she was from Barra. James' father looks likely to have been ROBT SHIMMIN b. Castletown/ Malew (Christening: 28 JAN 1796), who I believe married ANN KENNAGH or ANN KENNIAGH b.Douglas c1807. This Robert Shimmin's parents seem to be THOS SHIMIN b. c1771 (Christening: 09 FEB 1772 Malew) who married Ann Halmes / Ann Holmes born 18 OCT 1793 Malew.

My great grandfather Francis had 5 brothers and sisters (James William, Amelia, Christian, Thomas and Walter) but I have not been able to track down any of these in later censuses. His father James presumably had brothers and sisters also, and these may have appeared in the John Kelly thread.
