Thank you, Frances - good thought, Isle of Man or Isle of Mar? Yes, I am sure our Leslies are originally Scottish, but it is possible they detoured through the Isle of Mann (which is the preferred spelling?) for a couple of generations before landing in America. They seemed to adhere to the Scottish customs somewhat so I was thinking more of the Scottish naming pattern. If our John b. 1816 North Carolina, USA named his first born in 1845 Alexander Madison, the first-born son was named for the father's father, which would have been long before our President Madison and, according to when the father's father arrived in the U.S., more than likely was bestowed upon him in (??) wherever they came to U.S. from. As I mentioned, I am grasping at straws and just hoping to make some connection I had not found before with Leslie/Madison. Evelyn
