Re: Baptism of Lewis Philip Kewley

Hi Tom

I wonder whether Isabella was too ill to get to the church after the last banns were read on 9th April, so the clergyman might have performed a type of marriage communion on her deathbed ? This is a death certificate which is well worth ordering as it'll give the exact date of death, which may or may not fit that scenario.

The Jun Q death means that James must have taken 8 yr old Lewis Philip to St James Church, Clerkenwell, to be baptised on 16th October 1848. Perhaps the clergyman insisted on the wording of the entry in the Baptism Register with just the mother's name, so James added the name Kewley as a middle name.

Now the Killey family where James Kewley was staying in 1841, as mentioned in my last message:

**************************************
1841
Onchan 8, 17+18

Ancestry's transcription (Kelley should be KIlley ):

Susanna Kelley 27
Jane Kelley 20
Marian Jackson 14
James Kewley 50
Marran Kewley 4

My notes:

Marian Kewley 4 was b England
"Bakarran Kewley" 60 looks like Isa Karran (and there are no ditto marks to say that she was a Kewley)

The question is, were Marian Kewley (b 1837 England) and Ellen Kewley (b 1842 England) daughters of James Kewley b 1783, civil engineer ? And if so, was Isabella their mother ? Where was Louis/Lewis Philip Kewley b 1840 in 1841 ? (I'd like to suggest that Louis Philip age 17 months was with his mother and Arabella Baker at 8 Millman Row, but somehow his name wasn't included in the household.)

Did you know that there are photos of Louis Philip Kewley Kewley's children on a tree on Ancestry ?
