Grateful thanks for the brilliant detective work. i shall print out & provide copies as appropriate. When I look at the St Andrew's Church memorial I shall remember this Edinburgh born schoolmaster who came to teach
here & the 3 sons he lost in wars., for Sydney had lived in his house with his name although a step grandson & must have been like a son.

All who have been reading this string should admire those IOMFHS members who got onto hands & knees to record MI's . I found this inscription difficult at lower level & I was a few inches away & of course it is a rather
smart stone for earlier times not badly decayed.I even took a bottle of water to throw on the stone & assist my eyesight.

By coincidence I have family graves in close by rows. Perhaps in summer they may open the church door for passers by & I can see their War memorial & Roll of Honour again. The first time I saw that , I was disconcerted &
thought but my Grandad IS alive!! I understand it's the only one like that in IOM.
