In that 1871 household, Robt Thomson has a blank "relationship" box.
22 yr old Elizabeth Cain has "sister wife" .
MC b 1830 Mich and MC b 1829 Brad each had a sister, Elizabeth. The 22 yr old above is the sister of MC b 1830 Mich.
The strange thing is that in this one household you've got the son of MC b 1829 Brad living with MC b 1830 Mich. Perhaps this is why lots of people with trees on Ancestry have got the 2 MCs muddled up.
Another possible reason is that the "place of birth" for that entire 1871 household is badly written and looks like "Isle of Man Brad", so probably done by one of the not-so-conscientious enumerators who wasn't fussy about getting the birth parish of each individual person. In the 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses, Mgt Quayle alias Quiggin nee Cain b 1830 Mich is shown as being born in Michael.
