Re: 1881 Castletown Census
In Response To: Re: 1881 Castletown Census ()

This 1881 census page throws up 2 other anomalies:

1) the 3 Ford children, William C 7, Esther 5 and Edith M 9 months, are listed on the actual census page as "nephew" and 2 "nieces", but they're definitely grandchildren of the head of household.

2) the daughter of George Taubman, Edith M Taubman 10 b Castletown, doesn't have a baptism entry in the IGI. However, there is an 1871 baptism of a Margaret Ida Taubman to George Taubman and "Margaret Isabella". The only George Taubman marriage is between GT and Isabella Cowley in 1868. So did the census-taker get the wrong name for the 10yr old daughter (confusing her with the Edith M Ford) or did George Taubman and Isabella decide to add Edith to the child's name after baptism? Or is there something about the baptism entry in the parish record (a mistranscription perhaps?)
