Re: Maragret Shimmin born IOM 1805 ish

Hi Adrian,

Thanks, much appreciated!

I had a cousin who had gone to the Isle in the 80's - she also used the 1841 & 1851 census for Thomas Moore & Ann Shimmin, the film 0106738 lists Thomas Moore & Anne Shimmin, both of the same parish on marriage record.
My cousin is the one who used the parents of Ann Shimmin as being the daughter of Philip Shimmin & Catharine Quine.

Perhaps what is written on the marriage record in Patrick and what is written on the census of 1851 are both correct.
Am wondering if Ann's correct place of birth is in German, but she was of the Parish of Patrick, possibly living on the boarder - have noticed this with some other Shimmin's as well who were from German but christened at Patrick.

I do believe the Thomas Shimmin who married Anne Cowley went to the USA and settled in Illinois, to bad the marriage record did not have ages.
Parish record indicates that Thomas Shimmin & and Ann Cowley were both of this Parish - film 0106738, witnessed by John Cowley & William Curphey, possibly John father of Anne Cowley - seems to match with the 1841 census with Philip listed as possible grandson of John Cowley & Eleanor (Clark?) Cowley.

I could not find out what happened to Elinor Shimmin ch 25 Oct 1835, there was not a death listed which would seem to match on Brians Index, if there was, one would think it would occur before the ch of Ellen.

There also is a daughter Anne buried in Illinois, d 7 Sep 186? 18y, 2m 12d, age seems to match with christening 27 Aug 1842

Also daughter Ellen who married Charles Richard Bawden tombstone states b. 17 Jun 1837 - d. 10 Feb 1904 (birth also matches with christening of Thomas Shimmin & Ann Cowley ch 18 Jun 1837)

Son William Thomas Shimmin d. 27 Apr 1869 - 21y, 1m, 12d - approx birth 1848, assume born in USA.

John Henry Bawden son of Ellen Shimmin & Charles Richard Bawden married Louisa Watts - daughter of Robert Watts & Anne Moore.

Will have to look at the birth of Anne Moore this Saturday.

Thanks again,

Tim
