I lived nearby as a small child & played in a lane behind the hedge but never saw the gardener. In the 70's
I met the then gardener often when the gate was open & bought quality produce at bargain prices but never knew the
elderly gent's name---he seemed well informed &" spouted "
the Latin names of plants. He told me once he had spent a
lifetime serving in a Seed shop in Ridgeway Street ?? So I guess the garden was a hobby which became a full time job
on retirement.
