Re: Wylde family
In Response To: Re: Wylde family ()

William Henry Wylde shown in the 1891 census as a gold jeweller, aged 40, born in Manchester, England, at No. 26 Prospect Hill, Douglas, Isle of Man, was the second husband of my husband's great-grandmother, Margaret Ann(e) Little nee Nichol. They married sometime between June and December 1885.

Margaret's first husband Edward Little was a jeweller, watch and clockmaker in Douglas working at several addresses in Prospect Hill in the late 19th century; the last address I found being a shop at 20 Prospect Hill according to the 1882 directory for the Isle of Man. At this time Edward Little and his wife and family were living at 7, Harris Terrace. Edward died on May 21st. 1885 aged 39 and was buried at Kirk Braddan.

Margaret Ann(e) Wylde died on 12th May 1891 aged 42 years. William Wylde then married Elizabeth Hampson, another widow, in Douglas on 30th April 1892. His father's name is given as "Ottis" Wylde in the IGI record of this marriage.

In the 1871 census transcript for Lancashire I found "Oths" Wylde with his wife Caroline and family living at Chorlton. His son William Henry aged 20, a warehouseman, birthplace Manchester is included.

In the 1881 census transcript for Lancashire I found the same family living at Withington, except this time "Ottis" or "Oths" was written down as "Arthur". William Henry was included, aged 31, a warehouseman in the calico trade.

I cannot find William Henry Wylde or his second wife Elizabeth, or her family anywhere in the census of 1901. I recently contributed what information I have in an article to the Isle of Man Family History Society (published in the latest edition of their journal) and I'd be very interested in learning more about them if possible.
