Re: Gilbert Kelly 1670
In Response To: Re: Gilbert Kelly 1670 ()

Hi Carol,

Since posting yesterday I found 5 other family trees on ancestry.com that collaborated that my dates were wrong! My Patrick and yours are the same man though I presume you meant that your's was born about 1690 not 1790?

Parents of Patrick Kelly : Gilbert Kelly 1670-1726, Issabel Boddough 1673 -1713

Patrick Kelly DOB 16 Feb 1698, DOD 4 Mar 1787
Patrick married, Ann Cretney
Ann Cretney DOB 1717 DOD 1781

children of Patrick and Ann :

William Kelly 1741
Catherine Kelly 1744-1829
Patrick Kelly 1747
Margaret Kelly 1751
John Kelly 1758

Now just because 5 trees all have the same information doesn't mean that any are correct. There's a lot of laziness going on on ancestry in that folk are blindly copying someone elses tree without even noticing that from time to time the dates make no sense or that have the children are born on the Island and the other half in the USA in the 1600s, and it's the first half of the children that supposedly were born in the USA. It is entirely possible that I have got Patrick's wife and therefore children wrong and I will work to try to find some evidence to prove one way of the other.

Thanks Carol for sharing this with me. It is most helpful. It is very possible all your folk are right. I am supposedly descended from John Kelly, Patrick's brother, born 1758. He supposedly married Ann Mylevoirrey. John would be my 4 x great grandfather. I will get back after further researching. Perhaps someone else on the board may also be able to help us find the truth!

Kind regards

Sue
