Kinck surname seems to be derived from "Kinch" which can be found in a number of countires but concentrated in Ireland. Contact Harald Kinck in Telmark, Norway who has researched the Scandinavian Kincks and Kinches. According to him, a Peter Kinch (1570-1639) was a merchant ship captain from Kirkward in the Orkneys who moved to Drummon (sic) Norway around 1610 where he raised a family. The name "Kinch" in Norway became pronounced as "Kinck." This summary can be found in "The Kinch Family--400 years of History." It is on the Web and deals mainly with a family that settled in Germany and then migrated to America. There is another site that claims that Kinch is a Manx surname but I don't see it listed in the books on Manx surnames so doubt that it is but await Frances' comment.
