Re: James & Barnes families
In Response To: James & Barnes families ()

Further to my previous query, I recalled my mother saying that Eddie Barnes family was not originally from the Island, so played a few hunches and the following has turned up.

Eddie Barnes seems to have been born in Newcastle in 1882. (NO PRECISE DATE SO FAR)
His father, George Barnes, had been born at Kirklinton in Cumberland in late 1846, and in 1876 married Mary Thew of Hexham, Northumberland. By this time George was working as an Outdoor Officer for HM Customs, and by 1881 was living at 131 Clifford St, Byker, Newcastle. Eddie was probably their third child, there being two older sisters, Jane B and Hannah L. Some time in the 1880s, the family moved to the Island, where they appeared in the 1891 census, Hannah having apparently died. By 1901, the 18-year old Eddie Barnes was serving his time as an electrical engineering apprentice at Derby Castle.

Eddie's son did have a photo business as I commented, and it was at 5 Regent St Douglas. He had sons Peter and Kenneth

ANy further data will be appreciated
