Re: Braddan marriage look up, Watterson

Thank you for supplying that information, Mary and Frances. In looking for those addresses in old maps, I realised that my knowledge of Douglas Streets is woeful.

So at his 1869 marriage, Robert Watterson states that his address is 11 Albert Terrace. But in 1861, he's living in Albert St (no number given), and in 1871 his father and stepmother are living at 11 Albert St, which my map shows to be a different road from Albert Terrace. I wonder if there was a mistake made when the parish register entry was written at the time of the marriage.

The address of Windsor Terrace given by Ann Dunmore nee Garley is also interesting. Ann's family bible apparently came to light many years after her death, and it contains some intriguing information (I was hoping that her father's name would help to clarify things, but it's just raised more questions !)

An inscription in the bible says:

"For Anne with best wishes from Georgina and Mary Talbot - May 28th, 1869 Douglas" [IOM]. "

I've discovered that Georgina and Mary Talbot were 2 of the 3 daughters of Theophilus Talbot and Mary Jane Crebbin (married 1852 St George Douglas), and have found several references to this fascinating family in MNB. Since TT was a Wesleyan Methodist Minister until 1869 (when he joined the Established Church) he'd moved around the country, and his 3 daughters were born in Scotland (Georgina Haskins Talbot circa 1855), Newton Abbott, Devon (Henrietta Spencer Talbot 1857) and MirfieldYorkshire (Mary Stuart Talbot 1860). It's possible that at some stage, the family had been based in Northamptonshire / Bedfordshire, because it's the most likely explanation for the question "how did Ann Garley b 1846 in Bedfordshire, a domestic servant in Northampton in 1861, come to meet and marry Manx stone mason Robert Watterson ?"

By 1869, Ann was living at a very presigious address in Douglas (thanks for the description, Mary M ) and I believe that she was a domestic servant there, and that there's some connection to the Crebbin family of Theophilus Talbot's wife. In tracking the 3 Talbot daughters through the censuses, it seems that they lived both with their parents and also with their maternal grandparents:
