Re: Re Wm & Elizabeth Shimmin

Hi Averil

The William Shimmin and Cath Shimmin were in the 1901 census as living on the Foxdale Road

William as as a Grocer shopkeeper, Cath as a dressmaker. I think William was my Great, Great Grandfather and Cath being his second wife as his first wife (Elizabeth Caine) had died. It lists Blanch Maud and Emily and the four Looney girls were listed as stepdaughters. My mother said that there were relatives that thad a shop in Foxdale who they used to visit. I'm going to see my elderly cousins this week and see if these names mean anything. They might know more. It looks like this is the same family, I believe that the Looneys went to Peel.

According to what I was told by my Great Aunt Daisy after his wife had died and at around that time the mining (they were miners) wasn't doing so well on the Island he took the older boys to America got them settled then came back. At some point he remarried-and I think this could be Cath Moore/Looney/Shimmin.

I'll let you know what I find out from my cousins

Hope this helps
