Re: KANEEN & TOM ALONE
In Response To: Re: KANEEN & TOM ALONE ()

Hi Nigel
I believe the eccentric Tom Alone to be one of “my” Kaneens from East Baldwin.
On my recent visit to the island my mothers cousin (also named Tom Kaneen !) showed me some family photographs of Tom Alone and also an old book in which he was featured, and said that Tom had settled over the hill beyond Windy Corner.

Tom was born about 1851 to Thomas Kaneen and Catherine Quiliam at Creg y Cowin and was the older brother of my Great Grandfather John Kaneen.
In the 1861 census Tom is aged 9 living there with his Thomas aged 49 and my great grandfather John age 1. Tom and John's mother and sister both died in 1860.
I have been trying to unravel and understand the relationships of various Kaneen families - there were 16 Kaneens in total living in three adjacent properties around Creg y Cowin in 1861. If you or anybody has any info on them I would be very grateful.
Cheers
