Re: Edward Gelling, master b.1785 d.1848

Thanks Jean!

I tend to agree that these are the right parents for Esther.

The Thomas b ca 1800 Braddan who married Elizabeth Craine in 1824 I'm less sure about. There are at least 2 other couples besides William Gelling & Margaret Kneen who could just as easily be parents of this Thomas, including John Gelling & Isabella Cavendish, and Thomas Gelling & Elizabeth Kelley.

I looked up Esther Craine in the 1880 US census on the IGI and she's there in Cleveland age 75 as "mother". I don't understand the rest of the family though.

Given Thomas & Esther Craine and family didn't leave for the US until 1842, they should be on the 1841 UK census somewhere but I can't find them. Two of their elder children Margaret 14 & John 11 seem to be with their grandfather Thomas Craine in Ballaugh.

Re: the original question whether Esther Gelling was related to Edward Gelling, master, I have no clue. I don't know Edward's parents. He married Mary Shaw in 1861 Braddan with 8 children including a Cecilia. (Hmm, where have we seen that name before? Ah, it's with Jean's "Clague" group I think.)
