Re: Walkingtons Part 2
In Response To: Re: Walkington, John Franklin ()

This is where there is a gap!

Nicholas This is the grandfather of our Edward born in 1803. No Ch. details, but look at the names of his children and compare with those above! I think he must be a son of Edward and Margaret Fargher above. He could have been born in the 1730s.

Married Margaret CORLETT, 14 Sep 1762, Malew

Likely ch. 19 Aug 1739 Malew. Parents William and Elizabeth Kelley (yet again!)

Children, all christened at Malew:-

1. Thomas ch 25 Sep 1763 No record of burial in Manx Lawsons.
Poss. Marr. + Mary -?- in Liverpool?

Children:-
Philip ch. 4 May 1788 St. John’s, Old Haymarket
Mary ch 27 Oct 1789 St. John’s, Old Haymarket

2. Elizabeth ch. 25 Sep 1765.
Likely marriage to James CAMPBELL, 28 Sep 1805, Malew.

3. Margaret ch. 2 Feb 1768 Poss. burials 17 Oct 1793 or 12 Mar 1845(aged 82), Malew

4. Mary ch. 17 Jun 1770 No record of burial, so likely she married Philip GILL, 3 Oct 1791, St. Peter’s Liverpool

5. Nicholas ch 4 Oct 1772 Only 1 burial for this name, which is presumably his father in 1824. So this Nicholas seems to have moved to Liverpool.
Poss. Marr + Alice Farrer.
Children:-

Thomas, ch. 6 Ap 1798, St. Nicholas, Liverpool

Thomas, b. 4 Mar 1800, ch. 28 Ap 1800 St. Nicholas, Liverpool

6. Anne ch. 7 Ap 1775 m Wm KNEEN 11 Feb 1800 Bradden

7. Edward ch. 18 Jan 1778 m Jane CORRIN (see below)

8. Jane ch 15 Oct 1780 m. Wm CORRIN, tailor, 27 Aug 1799, Malew. Jane was buried 11 Aug 1808, aged 28. William married again… to Elizabeth

N.B. A Nicholas W. married Jane MARTIN, 22 Sep 1793, b.o.t.p., both signed with a X. He is a widower, but as I cannot find a marriage for the younger Nick, before this, I wonder if this is his father re-marrying? Nick senior died in 1824, buried13 Feb, Malew.

*********

William No birth details. Could he be a last son of Nicholas, or possibly of Thomas? Likely Burial – 19 Ap 1832 Malew (from St. Ann) – not long after birth of last child.

Married Catherine CAINE 21 Jul 1815, Malew (She may well be the Cath. buried 8 Mar 1851, Malew, aged 65)

The most likely ch. (of many) is 14 Feb 1786, St. Marks ( a Chapel of Ease for Malew). Parents – Thomas and Martha Taggart … see children’s names))

Children:-

1. Catherine ch. 28 Jul 1816 Malew

2. John ch. 2 Aug 1818 Malew (>U.S. in 1880 Census + Eliz, his wife and Thomas, (born 1842 I. of Man and Joseph, born 1851, I. of Man)

3. Martha ch. 3 Dec 1820 Malew
4. Henry ch. 29 Jun 1823 Malew (a servant near Derbyhaven in 1841

5. Louisa ch. 8 Mar 1829 Patrick (died in 1836, aged 14)

6. James ch. 8 Mar 1829 Patrick

William
No details of birth found, but about 1786, if we go by the Parish Register details below. Could he be a son of Thomas above?

Married Anne KELLY 22 July 1823 Santon (N.B. Edward W. married Catherine KELLY 1827 … connected? Need to check)

(This can’t be the same William because Henry above was ch. In 1823 and Jane, below was ch. 1824... unless his first wife died, the 2 younger children went to live with relatives who had them christened in Patrick … but there is only one burial for Cath. Walkington - as above.)

Child:- Jane ch. 21 Mar 1824 Santon Burial – 3 Feb 1844, Malew, aged 82 from Santon.

N. B. Who is the William who was buried 18 Aug 1837, aged 25?

Edward ch. 18 Jan 1778 Malew

m Jane CORRIN 7 /17 Nov 1801, Malew

Children:

Edward ch. 17 Ap 1803 Malew Buried 18 Feb 1870, aged 66, Malew

Jane ch. 27 Jan 1805 Malew (Likely death: ‘d/o Edward Walkington’ buried 11 Ap 1805)

Thomas ch. 6 Jul 1806 Malew Died 4 Aug, buried 7 Aug 1885, aged 79 (78 on his headstone)

Now I cannot find a Burial Date for Edward, either in Manx Lawsons or in the Malew Burial Registers which I went through this summer. So, was he a soldier who died on duty abroad or did he go on a fishing trip with a neighbour and die at sea? There weren’t any children born after 1806, that I can find, when he was probably only 28 or so, so he may have died soon after 1806.

Jane was buried 7 Jan 1859, Malew, aged 76
