I think the Hardings and Hardinges are essentially the same family. The first to come to the I O M was Brett or Brent Harding who was living in Castle Mona Avenue, Douglas in one of the census years - perhaps 1871. From memory he was born Dublin, and served in the police force in Ireland. He had a large family including many sons.
