My Grandfather John Callow born Marown circa 1855 left the I-O-M for the UK in the late 1800s His reason --work and the Furness district with it's Iron ore mines etc. gave him and many other Manx -men and women a living -my g/mother was from Lonan and married my g/father at Dalton-in-Furness in 1890.I may be wrong --but from what i can gather the eldest son inherited the Balla /Croit--so the other male siblings had to- or did flee the nest-to make a life elsewhere .In my families case here in what is now Cumbria where many Manx settled
