Re: Meyrick Family
In Response To: Meyrick Family ()

On the non-Manx side of my family I am descended from the Meyrick/Merrick family. Their roots are in Anglesey, Wales, where the Meyricks still have a family estate at Bodorgan. Sir George Meyrick is the current holder of the estate. The name is derived from the Welsh forenmae Meurig, taken as a surname by the descendants of Meurig ap Llewellyn when King Henry VII (or was it VIII?) required the Welsh to use surnames. Meurig ap Llewellyn was descended from the Welsh Kings, and they say, though I haven't seen proof of it yet, from some English Kings as well. (As a result of Edward I marrying his daughters into the Welsh royal lines to establish control.) There are many sources available for learning about this family.

I do not know if the Meyricks you speak of on the IOM tie in to this family, but I would guess that the chances are pretty good that they do.
