I am surprised this one is still running. However, just to illustrate the point, the great chieftain Somerled, who invaded and ruled Mann 1158-1164 was himself of mixed Norse (as his name implies) and Celtic birth. Intriguingly for Bridsons, his father was named Gille Bride or Gilbridget which looks as if it is from the same stem. Michael Bridson
