Re: QUIGGIN
In Response To: QUIGGIN ()

You probably already know all this, but just in case, here goes ....

Thomas Quiggin had 5 children that I am aware of - Vita (my Grandmother), Thomas (jnr), Ivy, Mona & George)was described as a confectioner on his daughter Vita Carne Quiggin's (b 13 April 1886, d 8 December 1956) marriage cert. (5 Sept 1911)

In 1840 a Mr W Quiggin had a confectionery business in Douglas IOM and he was the first person to put letters into rock. In 1847 a stick of rock was presented to Prince Albert by Mr Q's dauighter when the Prince visited IOM, with the words "Welcome Prince Albert to Mona" through the center of it.

Mr Quiggin had 4 sons who were all sugar boilers and one of these (Daniel) came to Kendal in 1872 and established a business there. As Thomas was described as a confectioner on Vita (Carne Quiggin)'s marriage cert, I have assumed that Thomas is Daniel's brother. But I don't have any proof (yet !)

Thomas junior emigrated to Canada sometime after 1920 and we are still in touch with his family over there. I'll ask them if they can add anything to the above.
