Villa Marina Kursaal

Opened in 1913 this was an attempt by Douglas Cooperation to attract the 'more staid and better-class holiday-maker' - it was a development on the grounds of Villa Marina that was offered to Douglas Borough for development as a tourist attarction.

Architect was Alban Jones - the design being slected from open competition.

The name, an unfortunate choice given the antiGerman feelings to be engendered in 1914, was an attempt to add more 'sophistication' to what had generally been regarded as a mainly working class resort.
