Castletown
Heritage
Castletown Heritage was established March 1997 to encourage and support the preservation, restoration
and development of the heritage of Castletown.
At its inception, the Council of Management deemed the aims and
objects of Castletown Heritage as being:
- To campaign for and promote:
- the preservation of all buildings worthy of
preservation;
- the restoration of derelict or inappropriately modernised
buildings;
- the enhancement of the town by well-designed new
buildings;
- schemes to improve the environment in the town's housing
estates, both public and private;
- the use of Castletown limestone in building and rebuilding
in the town;
- and the survival of Castletown as a living town with a full
complement of shops, a police station, a courtroom and places
of employment for as many trades and professions as possible,
and
- To record what is no longer with us, both through photographs
and through the reminiscences of the older inhabitants.
It publishes a twice yearly newsletter containing interesting sniipets of Castletown History as well as recent happenings
as well as organising a series of talks and guided tours.
