Photographs from Beecham's Photo-folio Series

Vol III - North of Island

The small book contained no textual material other than the captions (+ advertisments for Beecham's Pills) - all comments are my own. The photographs most likely date from a single visit in 1895. It would appear that these photographs were later acquired by Francis Frith as some of them appear in Francis Frith's Isle of Man (ISBN 1-85937-065-9) where they are also dated 1894 or 1895

Lezayre Church - Ramsey

Rather a strange choice of vantage point - the church at that time was ivy covered - the old church stood on the slope now occupied by the gravevard.

Post 1891 as the Breakwater is present though not yet fully extended - the Goliath crane can be seen which dates it to 1895/97 and nearer 1895 than 1897.

Glen Maye from the Shore

Glen Maye from the Shore

The cafe at the shore end of Glen Maye no longer exists - the path then must have been a little easier than today for the family to have taken their pram down to the beach.
