Working clockwise round the coast from Douglas the main ports are:

• Douglas - the chief port of the Island
• Derbyhaven - now of historical Interest only
• Castletown - 'mean and narrow' port
• Port St. Mary - one time fishing port
• Port Erin - intended as main port but after failure of breakwater never achieved importance
• Peel - fishing port
• Ramsey - had shipyard
• Laxey - of importance during the mining period 1840-1900
